Amadeo Vives (1871 - 1932), Adolfo Salazar (1890 - 1958) and Matilde Salvador and Segarra (1918 - 2007), Spanish authors from three different musical generations, have used the words «Madre, la mi madre» to the composition of their homonymous works for voice and / or different instrumental groups. The literary source of this text is the novela ejemplar El celoso extremeño  by Miguel de Cervantes, where we can find a transcription of a popular song in vogue at the time of writing this novel, i.e. around 1612. This implies a literary intertextual relation, but also a musical one.

That is why we will carry out an intertextual analysis of the musical works by focusing on the analysis of the archaic musical resources and the stylistic treatments used for each work. The goal is to determine the meaning of the selection of this literary source and the characteristics of its recreation in music as they arise from the aesthetic thought of each one of the composers and from the different cultural and historical contexts in which the songs are created.
