The study of the relationship between women and typographic businesses in sixteenth-century Mexico continues to be a topic little exploited in the framework of research on the history of books and printing in America. The professional, intellectual and economic work of the first women linked to printing workshops was transcendental for the development and continuity of colonial print production. However, the material and social evidence of their work, which has transcended and reached us, has not been sufficient to recognize their scope and participation. This essay briefly explores the line that links women with colonial typography and cartography some of the possible ways to open new investigations around their importance and their heritage legacy.
